Our Microcement Application Process
At Craftex, we transform ordinary surfaces into extraordinary spaces with premium microcement finishes. Our professional application process combines expert craftsmanship, lasting durability, and contemporary design to deliver seamless, beautiful, and functional surfaces for residential and commercial projects in Pakistan.
Preparation
Proper substrate preparation is essential for achieving a flawless, long-lasting microcement finish. Surfaces must be meticulously cleaned and cleared of any dust, grease, or imperfections to guarantee optimal adhesion and structural integrity.
Different surfaces require tailored preparation steps: floors demand stable subfloors and even leveling to prevent cracking, walls must be inspected for structural stability, and wet zones like kitchens and bathrooms require comprehensive moisture-proofing. Specialized applications—including outdoor weather exposure, countertops, and fireplaces—also require dedicated preparation techniques to withstand environmental factors and heavy daily use.

Priming
Priming is a critical phase for optimizing microcement adhesion across various applications, guaranteeing a strong, durable finish. While general surfaces benefit from primers to secure long-term bonding, specific environments call for customized treatments: floors and wet areas utilize bonding agents combined with fiber mesh to resist heavy wear and moisture, walls are primed for smooth and seamless aesthetics, and countertops are prepped to create a stable base. Additionally, outdoor installations employ UV-resistant and weatherproof formulas to combat environmental elements, while fireplaces are treated with heat-resistant primers to endure extreme temperatures.
Microcement Application
Base Coat Application
The base coat, infused with microfibers, provides strength and stability for a variety of microcement applications. Floors receive two layers of base coat to create a solid foundation that helps minimize movement and cracking. Wet areas, such as showers and outdoor spaces, may require an additional layer for enhanced protection and durability.
Outdoor surfaces receive a suitable weather-resistant base coat to improve durability against environmental conditions. For walls in dry areas with level 4 drywall, a base coat is generally unnecessary unless surface imperfections require correction. Countertops, fireplaces, furniture, millwork, and other surfaces receive a base coat when needed to improve adhesion, stability, or surface smoothness before the finishing layers are applied.
Finishing Layers
The microcement finishing layers create the desired texture, colour, and overall appearance. Craftex offers four texture options, ranging from smooth to grainier finishes, to suit different design preferences and application requirements. Floor finishes can be customized to balance visual appeal with the demands of everyday use, while wall finishes complement a variety of interior styles, from contemporary to rustic.
In wet areas, the finishing system must be combined with appropriate waterproofing and protective sealers. Outdoor surfaces require suitable weather-resistant and UV-resistant sealers to help preserve their appearance. Countertops receive smooth, durable finishes designed for a sleek, modern look and convenient maintenance. Fireplaces require a suitable system compatible with the expected heat exposure, while furniture, millwork, and other decorative surfaces receive customized finishing layers for a distinctive appearance and practical durability.
Smoothing Process
Smoothing involves light sanding to achieve a consistent, refined surface before sealing. Floors are carefully sanded to create an even finish, while walls are smoothed to enhance their appearance and prepare them for protective sealing.
Wet areas are sanded carefully to maintain a seamless finish before the application of suitable protective sealers. Outdoor surfaces are smoothed to prepare them for a protective system designed for exterior conditions. Countertops are sanded to achieve a sleek, refined appearance, while fireplaces are smoothed to ensure a uniform finish that complements the surrounding design.
Furniture, millwork, and other decorative surfaces are also lightly sanded to remove minor imperfections and create a smooth, consistent finish. This preparation helps ensure the surface is ready for the appropriate sealer, enhancing its appearance and supporting long-term performance.
Sealing
Sealing is an essential step in the Craftex microcement application process, helping protect the finished surface and maintain its appearance over time. Floors are treated with a suitable protective sealer to improve resistance to stains, moisture, and everyday wear, supporting long-lasting performance and durability. Walls receive a compatible sealer that enhances their appearance and helps protect against daily use and surface marks.
Wet areas require an appropriate waterproofing system beneath the microcement, along with compatible protective sealers to help resist moisture and staining. Outdoor surfaces are finished with suitable weather-resistant, UV-resistant, and water-resistant sealers to help protect against environmental exposure. Countertops receive a durable, easy-to-clean sealer selected for the intended use, with food-contact suitability verified where required.
Fireplaces require a protective finish compatible with the surface temperature and the manufacturer’s specifications. Furniture, millwork, and other decorative surfaces are sealed with suitable protective products to improve durability, maintain their appearance, and support everyday functionality. Selecting the correct sealer for each application helps preserve the beauty and performance of Craftex microcement finishes.
